Simply replacing their phone without checking the network would be an expensive guess.

Vehicle-network diagnosis follows the same logic.


Power & Ground Testing

Computers need reliable electrical power.

Many electrical problems ultimately come down to basic fundamentals:

  • Is the module receiving power?
  • Is the ground circuit intact?
  • Is there excessive voltage drop?
  • Is the connection capable of carrying current?

A circuit may show battery voltage on a meter and still fail under electrical load if a connection has excessive resistance.

This is why electrical diagnosis often requires more than checking whether “12 volts is present.”


Voltage Drop & High-Resistance Connections

Corrosion, damaged wiring or poor terminal contact can create resistance in an electrical circuit.

A circuit may appear normal until current begins flowing.

Then voltage is lost across the bad connection.

Depending on the affected circuit, this can create:

  • Slow cranking
  • Dim lights
  • Module resets
  • Charging problems

  • Unusual sensor behavior

Ten fault codes do not necessarily mean ten failures.

5. Test the Circuit

Once the evidence points toward a circuit or component, testing may include:

  • Wiring integrity
  • Component operation
  • Network signals
  • Current draw

6. Replace Parts Only When the Evidence Supports It

Control modules can be expensive.

So can the time lost replacing parts that were never defective.

We prefer testing over guessing.


Why Clearing Mercedes Fault Codes Isn’t a Repair

Clearing faults can be useful during diagnosis.

It allows us to see:

  • Which faults return
  • How quickly they return
  • Under what conditions
  • Which faults may simply have been historical

But clearing the memory does not fix the condition that created the fault.

If the problem has not been repaired, the warning will eventually return when the system detects it again.
